Jury of One’s Peers, or, “It Takes One to Know One”
Want to know who the top local Realtors are for any given area?
Not just sales volume, but actually talented, professional, effective, etc.?
Specifically, ask the agents who’ve done deals with them — and have witnessed, first-hand, how well they market, negotiate, and generally represent their clients’ interests.
Wholesale vs. Retail Ratings
Fellow agents — or at least active ones — may work closely with 20-30 other Realtors on the other side of various deals every year.
That gives them an excellent vantage point from which to assess other agents’ professional skills (or lack thereof).
By contrast, the average consumer likely only works with a few Realtors in their lifetime — sometimes separated by a few decades — and only sees a slice of what their agent does on their behalf.
Realtor Reputations . . . For Real
Good idea or not, don’t hold your breath waiting for candid “Realtor Ratings” — at least online or in any other written form: that’s the last thing I’d attach my name to (for defamation concerns and 17 other reasons), especially if I had a less than flattering take on someone.
Here’s a not-so-hidden secret, though: at least in my experience, the agents who’ve been successfully selling real estate for awhile . . . usually turn out to be at least pretty good. 🙂
