Nokomis

Realtor Shorthand for Minneapolis Neighborhoods

A knowledgeable Twin Cities Buyer’s agent would never say they had a client looking for a home near Lake Harriet in Minneapolis (“Lake Harriet-ish,” I suppose).

Lake NokomisInstead, they’d name the various neighborhoods adjacent to it:  Linden Hills, Lynnhurst, East Harriet, and Fulton (just to the southwest) — each with (surprisingly) different demographics, housing stock, and price points.

Twin Cities Neighborhood “Name Brands”

Less than four miles to the Southeast, there are fewer “name brand” neighborhoods around Lake Nokomis (“HPDL” — for “Hale Page Diamond Lake” — doesn’t cut it).

So, it made sense to hear a City Lakes agent with an upcoming buyer need broadcast that their client was looking for something “Lake Nokomis-y, up to $300k.”

P.S.:  On the west side of Minneapolis, the neighborhoods adjacent to Cedar Lake are also surprisingly different from one another in feel, price range, and choice of housing style.

They include Fern Hill and Lake Forest (St. Louis Park), as well as Bryn Mawr, Kenwood, Sunset Gables and CIDNA in Minneapolis.
