Not in Kansas Fargo Anymore

I can’t honestly say whether “You betcha!” died a natural death, or succumbed to self-conscious disuse in the wake of relentless satire in/from movies like “Fargo” (by native sons the Coen brothers, no less).

margeRegardless, you don’t hear the expression very often in the Twin Cities anymore (if you ever did).

Instead, you’re much more likely to hear lines like, “There ‘ya be!” (said without a trace of irony).

Marge Gunderson Lookalike.  Not.

tattooSometimes, the person uttering those words looks like Marge Gunderson, Frances McDormand’s character in “Fargo.”

But, sometimes, they look like the tattooed, 20-something with dyed hair and pierced — let’s just say — multiple things who handed me my receipt at the car wash this morning.

P.S.:  locals (and Coen brothers buffs) know that McDormand is married to St. Louis Park native Joel Coen.
