Fortunately, area homeowners don’t need to buy flood insurance years in advance to be covered — one month is usually enough.

But, give the deluge of snow in the Twin Cities the last month or so, and the surprisingly strong March sun (if not higher temps), now would be a very good time to investigate that option if your home is at risk.**

**Candidates: homes with a negative grade, in low-lying areas, and/or near wetlands, rivers, or streams.
