“Cold Enough For ‘Ya?,” or
“Go West North, Young Man”

I’m sure that other people have their own preferred definitions of what constitutes a “true Minnesotan” (growing up knowing how to sheetrock?  Ice skating before you could walk?), but here’s mine:

go north“A true Minnesotan is someone who heads north, not south whenever they have vacation time.”

Regardless of whether it’s July or January.

I have numerous acquaintances who, when I ask if they have travel plans over the holidays, President’s Day weekend (coming up), etc. routinely announce that they’re heading north to their cabins — or their friends’.

So, I suppose when you ask these folks if it’s cold enough for them, they reply, “Nope!”

  1. It’s the Scandinavian heritage! Almost one million Swedes moved to Minnesota back in the day. All fans of the cold winters and fertile summers. Not be thou. I ended up investing in Florida instead 🙂
