Divulging Vacation Plans (Or Not)

Maybe it’s just my imagination, but the Realtor I’ve been working on a deal with the past month or so was conspicuously silent offering details about his upcoming vacation.

And I didn’t ask.

radarInstead, the other agent professionally (and congenially) relayed the bare minimum:   when he was going to be gone, who is back-up was going to be, and that he would be unavailable during that time.

Make that, “completely unavailable.”

Two Types of “Vacations”

As long-time agents know, there are really only two kinds of vacations:  1) ones where you leave your smart phone on*; and 2) ones where you don’t.

Agents with active books of business quickly discover that #1 is no vacation at all.

As a result, it’s not unusual for such an agent to politely but pointedly inform their colleagues, clients, and agent counterparts that they will not be available while on vacation.

Part of being truly off the radar?

Not divulging any details (reason #2:  if you’re headed to Hawaii for two weeks in January, you may not want to call attention to that).

*Unfortunately, if you’re traveling with/meeting lots of people in a big city, you may need your smart phone on to communicate with them.
