Real Estate Euphemisms 101

It’s purely anecdotal, but I don’t think I’m wrong:  something like >95% of the time, when a listing agent touts that a home has a “low maintenance yard” . . . there isn’t a yard (or at least, not much of one).

Of course, if there’s only a postage stamp-sized yard to tend, by definition, it’s also “low maintenance.”

Drawback or Sales Feature?

Before jumping to condemn such marketing, however, consider this:  a small or non-existent yard is actually a plus for a growing type of Buyer in today’s market.

Their profile:  an aging Baby Boomer who wants to downsize, but still wants the privacy of a single family home (vs. townhouse or condo).

The marketing trick is to attract such Buyers without making others feel misled . . .
