“Nobody goes there anymore; it’s too crowded.”
–Yogi Berra, about a (too) popular Miami Beach restaurant.
Returning from a family event over the weekend in Philadelphia, it took me a while to name the city’s gritty, cosmopolitan vibe: “1980’s Upper West Side.”
Meanwhile, the real Upper West Side (in Manhattan) increasingly feels like something conjured up by Disney-for-Adults, Apple, and Starbucks (caveat: I haven’t spent a lot of time there the last few years . . . sort of my point about “no one going there”).
1980’s Feel (in a good way)
No, Philadelphia wouldn’t be an easy commute.
But, with more and more work effectively taking place in the cloud — and 1BR Manhattan apartments costing $1 million (at least) . . . why would you??
