Not Bad Guys or Aliens — Their Roles

No, I’m not talking about the heroes of the latest sci-fi blockbuster.

I’m referring to when an actor (in a movie, play, etc.) or a comedian doing a stand-up gig, is said to have “killed it” when they do especially well.

Or “crushed it,” “destroyed it,” “murdered it,” and  — of course — “nailed it.”

Most recently, I heard a TV talking head say that about the host of an awards show.

Sports Metaphors & Sublimated Aggression

All of which seems oddly aggressive, at least to a non-actor.

Maybe all those performers are confusing acting or standup comedy with hitting a baseball, hockey puck or golf ball . . .

P.S.:  At least when it comes to real estate, “killing it” (the deal) is a bad thing.
