Beyond “Fair Trade” **

What is beyond “Fair Trade?”

Fair Trade products delivered by bicycle.

Which Minneapolis-based “Peace Coffee” claims it does.

Demo’ing its (very tasty) product at the local Whole Foods over lunch hour, I pressed the company’s sales rep whether that policy applied equally in January as in June.

He insisted it did.

The one concession, according to the rep:  for deliveries to accounts more than 10 miles away, the company uses biodiesel-fueled vehicles.

Twin Cities Bicycling Awards Mount

In another city, I’d dismiss it as a gimmick.

But, the Twin Cities takes its bicycling very seriously — and is increasingly garnering recognition for same.

See, “The Bicycling – Industrial Complex“; “In Praise of . . . The Midtown Greenway“; “The Best Way to Explore the Twin Cities (Not During Winter“).

**Want a parallel?

Think of it as analogous to run-of-the-mill vegetarian vs. vegan.
