That (non-hypothetical) question is prompted by the practice — at least in my household — of each child rather loudly registering their displeasure at being sent to their room by stomping on each and every step on the way to their (upstairs) bedroom.

It was child #3’s turn to do “the march” this morning, for conduct unbecoming at the breakfast table.

Just for further effect — as if any were needed — they punctuated every other step with an emphatic, “I’m G-O-O-O-I-I-I-N-N-N-G-G-G!!”

Did you know that “going” was a 5 syllable word?

If we lived in a rambler, of course, such tactics wouldn’t work (though I’m sure they’d come up with something else).

And yes, the steps are carpeted.
