[Family Friend]: I want to say one word to you. Just one word.
Benjamin: Yes, sir.
[Family Friend]: Are you listening?
Benjamin: Yes, I am.
[Family Friend]: “Plastics.”
–“Benjamin,” Dustin Hoffman’s character in “The Graduate,” getting post-college career advice from a family friend.
Without giving anything away, suffice to say that “plastic” also figures significantly in the plot of Scarlett Johansson’ latest sci-fi vehicle, “Lucy.”
Or at least a certain (mostly) plastic modern device does (and no, I’m not referring to the actress).
The Meaning of Life According to “Lucy”
Instead of plumbing the mysteries of the universe, though, as the movie nominally purports to do, its real accomplishment is cementing Johansson’s claim to Angelina Jolie’s former mantle as the reigning badass-chick avenger/scourge of bad guys everywhere.
The movie also has a “back-to-the-moment-of-creation” montage that recalls the opening sequence from TV’s “The Big Bang Theory.”
My suggestion: save $8 (or $12) and two hours, and just play the first 30 seconds of The Big Bang Theory in reverse.
