“Do You Know the Way to San Jose Lake Calhoun?”

As of this week, anyone trying to get to Lake Calhoun (or St. Louis Park’s Fern Hill neighborhood) from the west has to navigate a couple extra hurdles (in addition to dealing with no bridge at Minnetonka Blvd; see below).

That’s because there’s effectively no way to get there headed south on Highway 100.

Pre-construction, exits at either Minnetonka Blvd. or Highway 25 (7 to the west) worked fine.

As of this week, both are now closed.

That leaves Cedar Lake Road, well to the north, and 36th St., WAY to the south.

Better strategies:  coming in from the west on 7, from the north on 394, or southwest on Excelsior Blvd. (ouch!).

“You Can’t Get There From Here” (For Now)

Also new this week:  Highway 100 traffic is now on the east side of the road, with construction shifted to the west lanes.

Does that mean the project is half done??

I don’t know, but I can report that the new bridge over Minnetonka Blvd. appears to be very close to completion.

Which is good news for the neighborhood, not to mention all the businesses on either side of 100.
