Wall Street Oxymoron: “Spin-Free Financial Journalism”
“What happens when you turn over regulatory responsibilities to people who think there is really no need for regulation?”
–Floyd Norris, “When Regulators are Blind to Rules“; The NYT (12/18/2014)
I can count on one hand — with a finger or two left over — the financial journalists and business commentators I
regularly seek out:
Michael Lewis . . . Jeremy Grantham . . . James Grant . . . Matt Taibbi (before he apparently moved on to other things).
Plus Warren Buffett (who really only publishes once a year, in the Berkshire Hathaway annual report).*
Also on the list: The New York Times’ Floyd Norris.
26 Year Run
So it’s a sad event — at least for Mr. Norris’ legion of loyal readers — to see that after 26 years at the Times, he’s retiring.
Thanks, Floyd, for all the spin-free, insight-filled and honest business analysis you’ve provided all these years.
You’ll be missed . . .
*Barron’s late, lamented Alan Abelson used to be on the list as well.
