How different are lawyers and CPA’s from Realtors?  (I’ve been all three).

early birdNever mind temperament and personality; their biological clocks are literally night and day.

Put it this way:  at my former law and accounting firms, if I showed up at 7 a.m, I could count on at least 8-10 colleagues already being at their desk, busily working (about 20% of the total).

Think you’ll see any Realtors at their desks at 7 a.m?

Fuggedaboutit (as they say).

Early Birds vs. Night Owls

At the end of the day, the picture is 180° different:  I routinely see lots of Realtors in the office at 7 p.m. (or much later), especially during the height of the Spring market.

night owlMeanwhile, at least in the Twin Cities, the lawyers and CPA’s like to clear out by 5 p.m., 6 p.m at the latest.

No doubt, some of the foregoing is a nod to clients’ schedules:  Buyers and Sellers with work commitments during the day often come in during the evening to meet with their Realtor, draft offers, etc.

But, it’s more than just that.

I’m willing to bet that Realtors are disproportionately night owls, while lawyers and CPA’s are much likelier to be early birds.

P.S.:  What do you call someone who burns the candle at both ends?

“A night bird” (or so suggests my 11 year-old son).
