Where Are Interest Rates Headed in 2014?

There’s no mileage in being contrarian just for the sake of being contrarian.

interest ratesBut, it’s uncanny — at least to me — how often conventional wisdom has a way being foiled.

In that regard .  . .  there certainly seems to be a broad consensus at the moment that interest rates near the end of 2014 will be significantly higher than where they are now (low-to-mid 4% for a 30-year mortgage).

The range I’ve heard thrown around most often is high 4% to low 5%.

Contrarian bets, anyone??

P.S.:  What could cause rates to dive again?

A weaker than expected economy, met by more stimulus from new Fed Chair Janet Yellen.
