Now that the extreme cold has passed and the weekend has arrived, it’s natural for thousands of cooped-up Twin Cities kids to want to play outside, in the snow.
Where’s the best local sledding hill?
My candidate is Minikahda Vista Park in South Minneapolis.

Located at 3901 Inglewood Avenue South, the Park actually features two sledding hills — on the Park’s west and north sides, respectively — that are relatively short but deceptively steep.
The ultimate seal of approval?
They’re crawling with kids — and not a few adults — after school and on weekends.
P.S.: No doubt another factor in the Park’s popularity is that the immediate area is full of kids (proximity counts as much as hill features).
*Free sledding hill, that is.
Parents who want to pop for inner tubes and tow ropes — and don’t mind piling into the car — can choose amongst places like Buck Hill and Bunker Hills, located at the south and north end of town, respectively.
Word of warning, though: the kids come back more tired out when they have to walk back up the hill.
