New vs. Experienced Real Estate Agents
“The reason colleges are such repositories of knowledge is that freshmen arrive with so much, and seniors leave with so little.”
–Fred Hargadon, Stanford Dean of Admissions (1980)
What’s the biggest difference between new and experienced real estate agents?
It’s not just that experienced agents know more than inexperienced ones (though they do).
It’s that experienced agents are more confident, because they know what they don’t need to know.
Stuff like*:
–Which quarry in Italy the marble fireplace surround came from;
–How many 2nd grade classes there are in the local elementary school;
–Property taxes to the penny, the water heater brand, or the monthly payment for a given size loan.
Not that it necessarily hurts to know those things, mind you.
It’s just that serious Buyers tend to focus on other, more important things.
Like the home’s floor plan, condition, size, and location.
It’s also the case that Buyers today can easily find lots information themselves (thanks, Google!) — or, from the lender they’re working with.
And yes, some information (like the Italian quarry) really just isn’t important or relevant.
*All real questions I’ve entertained from prospective Buyers.
