Free Lunch?  No, (Almost) Free iPad Mini

My advice:  any time you can get $200 for a dated, near-obsolete electronics device . . . take it!

So, apparently due to some sort of pre-Christmas price war(?), mega-retailers such as Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy are all offering $200 credit for old iPads to buy new ones.

In fact, the offer is even richer than that, because several of the retailers are throwing in $25 – $50 gift cards with a new purchase.

Net the $200 credit against the $300 new iPad mini (with 16 gigabytes storage), minus the gift card, and the cost to upgrade is about $100.

Conditions — and a (Possible) Catch

The catch(es)?

The old iPad must actually turn on, and the screen must be unscratched (in our case, “check” and “check”).

That, plus the fact the store has to actually have them in stock:  at least some locations are (already) out of some models.

So, my 13 year-old and I drove from the east-of-100 Target in St. Louis Park to the Knollwood Target last night, which had plenty.
