“Are They Spying on Us?!?”

As far as I know, the 85 year-old woman sitting on my right at the Gopher game today had not — unlike me — just finished reading arial_camerawhat feels like the sequel to “1984,” a new novel called “The Circle.”

Rather, what caught both our attention was the overhead camera hovering, on guy wires, just above the playing field (photo, right).

“It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s . . .”

I doubt that that’s new; instead, I think I noticed it for the first time because my Dad and I arrived early (a Kaplan first!), and the camera is more conspicuous against a backdrop of empty seats (also, with no game in process, the camera seemed to be wandering over the stands rather than the field).

As for the game?

Minnesota beat Nebraska(!), something that last occurred when I was 10 months old (way back in Fall, 1960).

P.S.:  Although the game was at TCF Stadium on the U of MN campus, with all the red (Cornhusker) jerseys, it seemed like it could have been in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Do they get below-zero windchill, too?  🙂  (the game was f-r-e-e-z-i-n-g)
