Favorite Menu Item:  Hot Chocolate(?)

OK, so neither of the “rooms” I have in mind are in private homes (they’re in commercial establishments).

And, the effect is much better on a frigidlola December day in Minneapolis (high temp:  16 degrees) than, say, San Diego in June.

But, there’s something instantly grounding and comforting (literally) about a room whose focus — and center point — is a hearth.

At the Dunn Bros. coffee shop in Uptown (top photo), the center of the room is literally a hearth.

At Lola’s Pizzeria in South Minneapolis (photo above), the center of the room is taken up by the massive, wood-burning oven.
