Thanks to Sunrise Cyclery at Bryant and Lake Street in Minneapolis’ Uptown neighborhood.

First for being open at 10:15 a.m. this morning (all the other Uptown bike shops apparently open at noon on Sunday); and second, for adjusting my 9 year-old son’s bike at no charge.

Hey guys, how about a free plug instead?  🙂

Once the mechanic finished the adjustments, he proceeded to fill up the tires manually.

Why no compressor?

“Because no one knows how to use one, and they blow up their tires (and then say it was improperly adjusted).”

Makes sense to me.

Stop #2:  the Wedge, one of my favorite local groceries (and one of the country’s runaway co-op success stories).

You know an establishment has diehard fans when the cashier asks a customer (the one directly ahead of me) whether he was a member.

When he replied “yes,” she asked if he knew his member number, whereupon he spat out his six(?) digit ID as though it were his birthday.

Not me.

When it was my turn, she had to look it up in the computer.
