Collective Plane Cheers — and Groans

As a lifelong Minnesotan (with some interruptions living on the East and West Coast), I can report returning to the Twin Cities when the local temperature was minus 20° (Jan., 1977); during a blizzard (Feb., 1995); and many, many other occasions when boarding the plane to come home required a big dose of courage (insanity?).

So, believe me when I say it was a delight (and a relief) to come back to town yesterday to find postcard-perfect Summer weather (brilliant sun, low humidity, temp in the 80’s).

Task #1, after unpacking:  biking around the lakes (where numerous downed trees testified to the huge storm Friday night).

P.S.:  The biggest collective plane “cheer” I can recall:  the El Al pilot announcing our arrival in Israel.

The biggest groan?

The pilot announcing to a planeful of Minnesotans returning from Honolulu in January that the local temperature was minus 21°.
