Then I looked up.

Give the painter credit for perfectly capturing 11,400 foot Mount Lamborn, looming over Paonia from about 10 miles to the northeast (photo, left).

The town was a welcome, albeit brief, respite from the crowds and traffic in Denver and Colorado Springs (yup, Colorado Springs — at least during rush hour).

P.S.: I visited briefly a few weeks ago as part of an epic, 3-day solo road trip.
