triplex

Perplexed by “Plex”

Here in the Midwest, a “triplex” has a specific, defined meaning:  it’s an apartment building with three, legally separate rental units.

trumpErgo, a duplex consists of two units, a fourplex, four, and so on.

The units may either be side-by-side or stacked vertically — same (legal) difference.

Number of Floors vs. Units

Ahh, but in New York City, “triplex” apparently refers to the number of floors in an individual condo.

So, as many Americans now know, the Trumps reside in a condo with three levels in Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue.

Barron Trump, the couple’s 10 year-old son, reportedly has one to himself . . .

P.S.:  New York City trivia:  my wife and I were married in the Puck Building in lower Manhattan.  Its (other) claims to fame:  1) it’s the iconic building featured in the opening credits of sitcom “Will & Grace”; and 2) the owner is the Kushner family, who you may have read are now connected to the Trumps by marriage.
