Prefab Lite

You expect to see 100′ foot cranes hovering over commercial construction sites.

blog_roofNew residential homes, not so much.

Yet that’s exactly what motorists, pedestrians, and neighbors saw last month on the 2800 block of Inglewood Avenue in St. Louis Park’s Fern Hill neighborhood.

In fact, drivers had to view the massive crane from either 28th Street or Sunset Boulevard:  the street was closed to traffic for several days.

blog-trusses2The crane’s job:  lifting dozens of roof trusses into place on the home going up at 2853 Inglewood Avenue South.

Such trusses are assembled off-site, and dramatically reduce construction costs — mostly, for framing-related carpentry.

P.S.:  Given that there’s no mention of the home on MLS, it appears to be commissioned for an existing client rather than a “spec” home.
