“Meteorological” Spring vs. “Calendar” Spring vs.”Minnesota Realtor” Spring

With still-freezing temp’s and another 3-4 inches of fresh snow overnight, it may seem like a cruel joke.

snowBut, the halfway point of the Twin Cities Spring housing market is rapidly approaching.

Really.

April Fool’s Joke?

Just as “meteorological” Spring is defined as March-April-May, and “calendar” Spring is March 21 – June 20, Realtors’ definition of Spring varies as well.

In a typical year — which this isn’t — the “Spring” housing market in the Twin Cities runs from approximately mid-Feb. to mid-May (there’s a palpable slow-down well before Memorial Day).

Which means the mid-point falls around April 1.

This year . . . add a few weeks.

P.S.:  Clients know my line about the official beginning of the Twin Cities Spring housing market:  the first warm (for Minnesota) weekend after the Super Bowl, or, whenever Target stops selling winter gloves and starts selling swimsuits.
