Snow Shoveling Double Jeopardy

“Every time I think I’m out . . . they keep pulling me back in.”

–Michael Corleone, “The Godfather III”

Thousands of Minnesotans who thought they’d finally dug their way out of the latest snowfall — more than 10” in the last 48 hours — learned otherwise this morning.

That’s when they discovered they’d been barricaded in their driveways (plowed in) by city snowplows overnight (it happened to us, too).

There’s really not much to do but grab your shovel (and ice chopper, for this round), and start over again.

Drowning in Snow

Although the snowfall  in the Twin Cities to date is merely above average, the amount on the ground is truly eye-popping:  on some streets, the snow is piled so high, drivers feel like they’re in the middle of a bobsled run.

My neighbor’s explanation (which seems right to me):  in a normal winter, intermittent thaws reduce the snowpack.

This year, it’s been so cold that all the snow that’s fallen (about 60″) is still on the ground.
