jelly

When I take my kids — and their friends — to the movies, I try to catch the discount matinée.

And avoid the theatres’ nosebleed prices for popcorn, candy, etc.

Instead, we pop into the nearest grocery store, and head for the bulk candy bins.

New Criteria

Up until yesterday, my policy was that each kid gets $3 to spend on the bulk candy of their choice.

However, I didn’t count on my 10 year-old “gaming” the system.

He found the cheapest candy per pound — jelly beans for $2.25, vs. $8 to $12 per pound for the fancier stuff — and showed up at the checkout with an ocean of same.

The new rule:  $3 per kid and a maximum .2 pounds of candy.
