Quick Alternative to House Cleaning

A thorough housecleaning can involve weeks of sorting, discarding, cleaning, etc.

Not that ambitious?

I recommend a “key chain cleaning” instead.

Orphaned Keys

As practiced by yours truly, it can be accomplished in less than 30 minutes, and involves these three steps:

1. Take all the keys off your key chain(s).

2. One by one, test each key to see if it actually unlocks or opens anything.

3. Throw out any keys that don’t.

Just to hedge my bets, I actually put all the orphaned keys in a folder, which I set aside for six months (and write an “expiration date” on the outside of the folder).

Then, if I don’t need to open the folder in six months . . .  I pitch it.

It’s amazing how pruning your key chain can literally lighten your load, and create momentum for undertaking more challenging projects.

Like cleaning out the garage.
