Avoiding Cliches

What do you tell a client who just sold their home, but pre-signed the closing documents and therefore wasn’t at closing to collect their proceeds check?

Unfortunately, it just doesn’t sound right to tell someone that “their check is in the mail.”

Instead, I told them that “Edina Title had mailed the check and copies of the closing paperwork that morning, and that they should receive it in 1-2 days.”

Which it had . . . and they did.

P.S.:  One of my favorite Mad magazine cartoons shows a food stand vendor in front of a big sign that reads “Turkey burgers, chicken burgers, veggie burgers, buffalo burgers” — and on and on.

The caption?

“We have some with ham, too, but we don’t know what to call them.”
