Nobody goes there anymore.  It’s too crowded.

–Yogi Berra

I first noticed it a couple weeks ago.

Then, tonight, I really noticed it:  eastbound traffic on Lake Street was backed up at least a mile to the west, stretching all the way from the northeast corner of Lake Calhoun (where there’s a notable construction pinch — see below) west and southwest to Excelsior Blvd. and Beltline Blvd., respectively.

If you don’t know Uptown, Beltline is almost to Highway 100 in St. Louis Park!

Compounding the backup:  the continued, unseasonably warm weather has everyone heading to the lakes after work.

Cool Photo

The cool photo above was clearly taken from Lakepoint, a condo tower on the northwest corner of Lake Calhoun.

But it’s at least 5 years old.

I know, because there are now several high-rises (OK, mid-rises) off the northeast corner of the lake (photo upper right).

Bonus points:  name the building just barely visible in the lower left corner.

Answer:  Calhoun Beach Club.
