Back to the Future
Once upon a time, owning and operating a private car was expensive, and everyone — at least in big cities — used public transportation.
With gas eclipsing $4 a gallon and headed higher, might we be headed back to the future?
If so, all those centrally located, well-built older Twin Cities homes with only a one-car garage may be enjoying a renaissance — or at least a shrinking discount for want of a second garage stall.
As for all those 3-car garages in the ‘burbs?
It’s always nice to have extra storage.
P.S.: Trend #2, courtesy of technology: various ride-share and fractional ownership plans, which let large groups of people defray the cost of driving.
