Serving the Country, or Himself the Next 4-8 Years?
Once everyone recovers from our collective, national OMG moment, what’s next?
For the approaching Trump Administration, I’d argue that step #1 isn’t making key White House personnel decisions, appointing Cabinet members, or (God forbid), tweeting in response to inane provocations.
Rather, it’s putting his business interests — all of them, no carve-outs or fine print — into a blind trust, for the duration of his Presidency.
Litmus Test
The country is entrusting Trump, in no small measure, with its future.
The least Trump — make that, President Trump — can do is put the country, not his own pocketbook, first for the next 4-8 years.
“America first,” indeed.
P.S.: Dear Republican Congress: want to reassure the popular majority who did not vote for Trump?
Pass a good, simple law banning Presidential conflicts of interest.
I’d prefer sweeping campaign finance reform . . . but at least it’s a start.
