The Hands-On Approach
OK, so the “brush” to be cleared was in our alley by Cedar Lake, not on the back 40 of our Santa Barbara ranch.
And the task at hand — belatedly cleaning up after last week’s big storm — is more of a “one-off” than an ongoing chore, and there are not likely to be any photographers commemorating the event.
But, just like Ronald Reagan famously liked to do on his ranch in California, the Kaplan family is going to spend a chunk of this weekend chopping up downed tree branches, clearing debris, and generally tidying up our property.
Gratifying Work
No matter what you thought of Reagan’s politics, there’s something to be said for a guy whose idea of relaxing, restorative downtime (really!) was to clear overgrown brush on his land in the hot sun.
Just don’t ask me to spend time in the garden (not my thing).
