Technically, that headline is 100% accurate (and was too irresistible not to write).
It’s just that the Kaplans in question were Sam and Sylvia Kaplan, who live in a townhome just off the Mississippi River (not the Kaplans who live in a Colonial by Cedar Lake 🙂 ), and who happen to be heavyweights in the Democratic party and big-time fundraisers — the purpose of last night’s get-together (Sam Kaplan was also the former ambassador to Morocco).
While I am a distant relative and have been in the (other) Kaplans’ home, I most certainly didn’t rate an invitation — and wasn’t there last night.
About all I have in common with Sam Kaplan is that, once upon a time, when I was a lawyer on the 48th floor of the Wells Fargo Center (then Norwest) and he was a lawyer on the 51st floor, I occasionally got his mail by mistake.
I never looked.
