Silver (Gas) Linings

Anyone who’s been in St. Louis Park’s Fern Hill neighborhood lately — just north of the Edina Realty City Lakes office — has doubtless seen the massive street construction project in progress.

Normally, block after block of torn up streets suggests that homeowners will eventually be on the hook for a major special assessment.

Not this time.

The project is an upgrade to the area’s gas lines, ordered — and being paid for — by the local gas company, CenterPoint Energy.

Of course, just because area homeowners aren’t being stuck with the tab doesn’t necessarily mean that CenterPoint’s customers aren’t, in the form of higher rates (and no, I haven’t checked my bill yet).
