A Brand Name Dan Quayle Could Love*
What’s today’s hottest new home amenity?
No, it’s not silestone counters, ever-thinner wall TV’s, or Fireplaces in unexpected places (Master Bedroom, anyone?).
It’s a . . . deluxe shed.
At least, that’s based on a very unscientific polling of a couple families we know (including mine).
Winter Prep
Like us, they all have a couple kids who are now big enough to bike, ski, sled, etc. — which means accumulating aforesaid bikes, skis, sleds, etc.
Of course, those items have to compete for scarce garage space with the usual complement of rakes, shovels, a lawn mower, snow blower, etc.
The solution?
Earmark an underused corner of the yard for a 10′ x 10′ shed.
Including any needed site prep (tree removal, crushed gravel pad, etc.), total cost comes to about $4k – $5k — a far cry from the $50k a new room addition could easily cost.
In the bargain, a shed allows families to easily get both cars in the (hopefully) attached garage — the ultimate amenity the next few months in wintry Minnesota.
*See this post for the inadvertent confusion caused by a (too?) cute brand name.
